The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the School of Natural and Health Sciences at Moravian College invites applications for a Director of Clinical Education Faculty Position in the developing Doctor of Physical Therapy program. This is a full-time, tenure track, open rank 12 month position.

We are looking for creative and collaborative individuals who are interested in contributing to program development and creating opportunities for students to participate in innovative interprofessional education and clinical experiences. The start date of the DCE position is August 26, 2019.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program will be the fifth program in our Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, following the Master of Science in Athletic Training, Doctor of Athletic Training, Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. The vision for the rehabilitation sciences department is to develop collaborative, interprofessional programs within a single academic unit.

Moravian College has developed new, state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate for the growing health sciences programs including renovations on the Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Center and opening the newly built Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences. Both buildings house cutting-edge technology for student education including a clinical simulation center and virtual cadaver lab.

The developing DPT program is in the pre-accreditation phase of the CAPTE accreditation process and the program expects to submit the Application for Candidacy prior to December 1st, 2020.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, administer, and direct the clinical education component of the curriculum in alignment with the DPT didactic curriculum and interprofessional focus of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences.

  • Promote quality-learning experiences for students during clinical education and integrated clinical experiences by developing strong relationships with clinical partners and recruiting new clinical education partners on a regular basis.

  • Evaluate students' performance and outcomes, in cooperation with academic and clinical faculty, to ensure readiness for progression within the DPT curriculum.

  • Manage administrative responsibilities consistent with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policy, and practice setting.

  • Develop and provide documented records of the clinical education outcomes including effectiveness and appropriateness of clinical education sites, maintenance of contemporary expertise and effective teaching of individual clinical instructors and site clinical coordinators of education, and analysis of the clinical education component of the curriculum in relation to CAPTE requirements.

  • Actively collaborate with core faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment to align with mission of DPT program.

The Program

  • The UAMS Physical Therapy program admits 24 students per year, utilizing an individualized, holistic admission process that considers both academic and non-academic admission factors.
  • The curriculum emphasizes active learning methods, including flipping the classroom, that focus on integration and application of material and critical thinking skills. In-class sessions will involve problem-based and team-based learning, as well as inter-professional learning experiences.
  • Newly renovated facilities include 14,000 square feet of dedicated teaching and research space and two outpatient clinics, a multi-disciplinary clinic and a dedicated out-patient rehabilitation therapy clinic. Faculty and students will have ongoing patient contact in these out-patient clinics as well as an onsite skilled nursing facility, beginning early in the curriculum.
  • Simulations labs using standardized patients and in-house clinics will allow a progressive, ongoing clinical education experience, cumulating with, but not relying solely upon, clinical internships.
  • Onsite research equipment includes 2 Tekscan VersaTek Walkways, a 12-camera Opitrack Prime 13 system and a 16-channel Delsys Trigno EMG unit, all synchronized with a MotionMonitor data acquisition, analysis and visualization system. Also a BTE Primus, a Neurocom Balance Master with Invision, a Cosmed Quark CPET Metabolic Testing System, an AlterG Anti-gravity Treadmill and a Cadwell Sierra Summit NCV/EMG unit. Collaborative research opportunities exist with other faculty at UAMS Northwest, UAMS Little Rock and the nearby University of Arkansas campus.
  • The Program achieved full Accreditation status in May 2018. Our inaugural class received a 100% NPTE first-time pass rate.

Job Description

The DCE has the overall responsibility of providing leadership for and administration of the clinical education curriculum in order to meet the educational needs of our students, the mission and outcomes of the DPT program, and the evaluative criteria set by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). DCE serves as the primary liaison between the academic program and affiliated clinical education sites, providing ongoing communication with clinical instructors and students to assure that the intended learning outcomes for each clinical experience are met. Expectations include maintaining current clinical contracts, identifying diverse, new clinical sites, and overseeing the placement selection process and preparation of twenty-eight students in each of three cohorts through four full-time learning experiences. Teaching at a reduced load in the individual’s content area of clinical expertise, student advising, maintenance of a scholarly line of inquiry, and service to the DPT Program and DeSales University are also components of this most valuable position.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in Pennsylvania. An earned terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSC) with a proven record of teaching in a graduate physical therapy program is preferred. An individual with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree plus ABPTS board certification in a clinical specialization area will also be considered. In addition, a proven record of three to five years of contemporary clinical practice and three years clinical teaching or clinical coordination provides the desired candidate with the skill set and networking abilities needed to be successful in this position. An established line of scholarship or clinical research, and active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association is highly valued. Previous experience with the CAPTE accreditation process, particularly as it relates to the clinical education curriculum is also a valuable asset.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidates with expertise in the area of musculoskeletal impairments/orthopedic conditions.  Primary responsibilities will include teaching, research, mentorship of DPT students, and participation in Departmental, School and College service activities. Based on candidate interest and qualifications, these positions may also include administrative responsibilities related to the development and coordination of an orthopedic and/or sports clinical residency program or serving as the Associate Program Chair. Required candidate qualifications include a terminal doctoral degree or progress towards completion of a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc) (applicants with a DPT degree will also be considered), eligibility for Virginia physical therapy licensure, evidence of an established or developing scholarly agenda, and previous teaching and clinical experience. The Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the School of Health Sciences, which also includes programs in occupational therapy, athletic training, physician assistant studies, exercise science and a newly approved RN to BS program. The School of Health Sciences is located in Marion, Virginia, which is 20 miles north of the main E&H campus in Emory, VA. The 14-acre Health Sciences campus includes two newly renovated academic buildings that are designed to promote interprofessional education and faculty collaboration across the School's academic programs. The educational facilities include multiple classrooms and clinical skills labs, a technology enhanced cadaver lab, several research labs, an applied physiology lab, and a clinical simulation lab with both high fidelity manikins and standardized patient exam rooms. The next phase of building renovation in additional parts of the campus buildings started in December of 2018 with anticipated completion in March of 2020. The Health Sciences campus also includes several community outreach programs including a Falls Prevention Center and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College. Description

The Department of Physical Therapy (https://www.utc.edu/physical-therapy/) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites nominations and applications for either a 12-month Tenure Track or Faculty of Practice position to begin August 1, 2019. The DCE has the overall responsibility of providing leadership for and administration of the clinical education curriculum in order to meet the educational needs of our students, the mission and outcomes of the DPT program, and the evaluative criteria set by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The DCE serves as the primary liaison between the academic program and affiliated clinical education sites, providing ongoing communication with clinical instructors and students to assure that the intended learning outcomes for each clinical experience are met. Expectations include maintaining current clinical contracts, identifying diverse, new clinical sites, and overseeing the placement selection process and preparation of thirty-six students in each of three cohorts. Other responsibilitites are teaching at a 50% load in the individual’s content area of expertise, student advising, maintaining a scholarly agenda, and service to the profession, the DPT Program and the University.

The successful tenure track candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Degree in physical therapy

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Tennessee with credentials to treat patients/clients in a direct access setting (DPT, tDPT, or appropriate coursework in differential diagnosis)

  • Teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas (geriatrics, acute care management, administration, ethics, pediatrics, education, communication, and psychosocial aspects of healthcare).

  • Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, DHS, or equivalent) in physical therapy or related discipline. Individuals who are “all but dissertation” (ABD) will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the first semester of employment

Job Description

The School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy in the College of Health Professions and Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for associate/full professor in the division of kinesiology and director of the Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Science. Position Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in kinesiology or a closely related field at the start of the appointment. The associate/full professor candidates must have a proven record of securing external funding to support their line of research, a productive publication record in high-impact journals related to their area of expertise and the ability to provide additional leadership within the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy. To be hired with tenure, the selected candidates must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with rank.

Preferences

The desired applicants will have a proven record of mentoring doctoral students and/or junior faculty, ability to work collaboratively within shared research space, and evidence of successful university teaching in kinesiology, exercise physiology, or a related discipline. Division Chief for Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

TDuke University School of Medicine (SOM) invites applications for the position of Division Chief for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program.  This Division includes 19 core faculty members, 232 professional students and a Physical Therapy Faculty Development Residency Program.  The Duke DPT Program was ranked #10 in the 2016 US News World Report and the program celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2018.

Administrative

Research

The new Division Chief will also be expected to build capacity for excellence in research.  There are exciting opportunities to develop physical therapy researchers by collaborating with teams within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, SOM, School of Nursing, Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI), and basic science programs across the university.  The expectation will be that the physical therapy researchers supported by the Division will perform innovative and high impact research, and also successfully compete for external funding.

Leadership:

The Division Chief will provide leadership to faculty, administrative staff and students within the program; facilitate communication, clarification and implementation of university and department policies and procedures; provide leadership through planning, implementation and evaluation of the DPT Program; and support of the program, department and institution’s mission.  As a member of the SOM faculty, the Division Chief will be expected to be an active participant in the professional and community life of the University, will advise and mentor graduate students, and contribute to a vibrant and growing academic program through participation in professional/scholarly activities, curriculum planning, and development.

Job Description

The DCE primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor clinical education activities on behalf of the DPT program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. The position serves as a liaison between the clinical and academic communities. The qualified individual will demonstrate competence in clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development. The Department of Physical therapy and Athletic Training at Northern Arizona University is currently inviting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2019 in the physical therapy entry-level program on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus. The B.S. in Health Professions, with an enrollment of over 1,000 students, is joining Athletic Training (M.S.A.T. and D.A.T.), Occupational Therapy (M.O.T and D.O.T.), Physical Therapy (D.P.T.), and Recreational Therapy (B.S. and M.S.), and in a newly formed Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences on July 1, 2019. The emerging department with 40 faculty and 1,300 students will produce practitioners and researchers who are prepared and acculturated to improve health and lived experiences. The compelling rationale for realigning the existing disciplines and programs into a single unit is the opportunity to define professional practice and educational endeavors in concert with the College’s public health programs, making the College uniquely grounded in improving the health of individuals, families and populations. Key elements of the department include a vertical integration and balance of programs across undergraduate, professional and doctoral levels; continued advancement of the science, education and practice of individual professions; fostering all faculty and students as leaders in individual disciplines and also as interprofessional educators and practitioners; and establishment of partnerships in education, research and service between clinical and public health practitioners.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders.  The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. The School of Physical Therapy at the Texas Woman's University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position on the Dallas campus. The candidate must have an earned terminal academic degree (PhD, DSc, EdD), have at least 3 years of clinical experience, be eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Texas, and be able to establish a systematic program of research with potential for external funding. The successful candidate will have teaching assignments in both the entry-level DPT, post-professional PhD, and neurological physical therapy certificate programs. The candidate must be able to teach in the neuromuscular pathology and rehabilitation curriculum track. Prior academic or residency teaching experience and neurological specialization are valued assets. Experience mentoring PhD students or participation in a neurological residency is preferred.
